Sacred Geometry and Spiritual Arithmetic: The Symbolic Power of Numbers and Central Points

Geometric oils are based on the arithmetic composition of number. For example, the number 6 can be visualized as a hexagon, if thought of as a balanced expansion of the 6 in substance, as a double triangle, if conceived as $3 + 3$, or as a square containing two lines, if visualized as $2 + 4$. Each of these figures identifies and determines a specific aspect of the number, orienting its effect on our meditation or use in ritual action. According to some teachings $3 \times 2$ symbolizes the Trinity that blesses the polarity of the sexes; as $2 + 4$ symbolizes the material base that sustains and always predominates when sexuality is taken as support for meditation in many initiatic ways. It is in this latter sense therefore that sex constitutes a vital polarity of difficult utilization for the ascetic who aims to free himself from the bonds of manifestation.

The Central Point. In traditional representations, stellar polygons are sometimes represented with a central point that deserves separate consideration. The central point represents the originary and vivifying principle, from which the star draws its origin and all its strength. It is hidden, intimate and invisible, transcendent with respect to the polygon that constitutes its expression and protection. The central point is indeed invisible in its essence but at the same time is manifest, being precisely the central point, the generator of the powers that are ordered according to the lines of the external polygon. It refers the entire figure to its essential and transcendent unity giving the entire figure a new depth and its true spiritual dimension. It symbolizes the divine presence and in this light can be substituted in iconographic symbolism, with the representation of an eye or a divine name. In a triangle, for example, the central point refers to the intimate unity of the vertices and is taken as a symbol of the essential Unity of the Divine Trinity. In the Star of David, the central point is also called the center of silence.

From an arithmetic point of view, the addition of the central point can be considered as the addition of a unit, which however maintains a character superior to the number to which it is added, and is in some way transcendent to it. Thus, in a certain sense, the Star of David, with the addition of a central point, equals the expression $1 + 6$. Therefore, on one hand, the image in question is in relation to the number 7, being this $1 + 6$, on the other it remains essentially linked to the number 6, insofar as the central point remains occult and transcendent with respect to the other six visible ones.

In synthesis we can conclude by affirming that every number is manifested by diverse geometric forms, which draw their foundation in and from the arithmetic composition of the number itself. The choice of the appropriate geometric exteriorization within those that manifest a number, for meditative or ritual purposes is therefore not arbitrary, or dictated by simple aesthetic or sentimental tastes, but follows an effective spiritual arithmetic, which illuminates all sacred geometry, and guarantees its operative efficacy.

The Möbius Strip: Orientation and Sovereignty

Sovereignty is one of the manifestations of the One in its orienting activity, and is a symbol of the pole of essence in the sphere of temporal power. The One is the first determination of metaphysical zero and the circular form, everywhere associated with the sovereign function, is a symbol of this dependence of the One on Zero, of the full on the void, of uni-directional expansion, on the fullness of sphericity. The ring, the crown, evoke that void, the true foundation of the regulating action connected to the verticality of the scepter and the power of the latter emanates from the center and in the name of the center of that void.

The active Void, in its constructive aspect, is a letting manifest the effects of a field of forces and this field of forces, precisely because of that withdrawal of the Void into itself, is born polarized towards the Good, in the originating instant that determines its initial configuration. Without this initial polarization towards the Good, ritual perfume left by that initial sacrifice of the Self by the Void, no vibration would have the possibility of being life, of becoming an individuated aspect of the Unique, everything would remain in an indefinite opening, unlimited in any possible direction, scattered dust, formless, devoid of any force to be able to return to the Unity of the Many in the One. The confrontation between forces also produces a remainder, which is an excess, specular of...
