Under every starry sky there existed, exist, and will exist initiates who illuminate the Way through Number. The arithmetic foundation of Reality is visible to anyone who has opened the eyes of the heart to see. More challenging is succeeding in entering into harmonious resonance with the Arithmetic of the Divine. This is what all sciences of rhythm and all ritual operativity aim at, when properly considered. If it is true that erudition divides and charity edifies, well then, to edify, ardor alone is not enough; what True Love needs to be able to edify is precisely the Science of Number. It is Number that unites everything to the Universal Intellect, beyond any distinction one might conceive or find opportune to introduce. Mathesis intends to provide the initiates of this epoch with a place where they can freely expose the symbolic visions that well-conducted meditation leads to realizing in themselves. There is no initiatic way that does not have as support for meditation forms or gestures or rhythmic sounds, which are not, therefore, manifestations of Arithmetic. A restricted vision of arithmetic symbolism would want to confine its realizing possibilities only in relation to the quantitative aspects of reality; even a superficial reading of the article "Pi and the product of all natural numbers," which we present in this issue of Mathesis, will be sufficient to show how such a vision of mathematical symbolism is inadequate for the current cyclical phase. Mathesis intends to propose some important works concerning those aspects of arithmetic symbolism that show how strongly it can be disjoined from restricted quantitative points of view; we believe that the lack of this knowledge strongly reduces the speculative and realizing efficacy of many spiritual paths; certainly these are arduous realizations to master with full awareness, but helping wayfarers is what justifies the presentation in Mathesis of meditations oriented to such more qualitative aspects of Number. In the work entitled "Principles of initiatic geometry," some modalities are made explicit according to which meditations on Numbers and their geometric manifestations can be conducted. Particularly significant applications of such modalities are somewhat explicated by Solis in "Notes on the mystic-initiatic symbolism of the cube" while, in the article "The twelve permutations of the sacred name" by Leovire and Zadik, meditations on Divine Names are indicated.
