Evolution of Human Consciousness and Sacred Geometry
of human consciousness up to the current state of waking, are similarly traced in this terrestrial evolutionary period, as well as in a single life, as well as every day of our earthly life. To the four planetary periods Earth, Moon, Sun, Saturn, correspond four elements and four states of consciousness such as that of waking, dreaming, dreamless sleep and finally deep trance. These are also states of consciousness that every human retraces in each of their incarnations passing through the consciousness of deep trance typical of pre-natal life, then to that typical of the newborn, then passing to that of the child and finally to that ordinary waking consciousness of youth and maturity. The consciousness corresponding to the earth element developed in the current period of Earth is the so-called waking consciousness, cemented and paralyzed in the physical body, externalized in the world of the senses and bound to three-dimensional space. The solidity of matter provides well-defined boundaries between what is perceived by the incarnated consciousness as I-not-I and which coincide with the limit imposed by the skin of the physical body. This condition of total identification with the physical body limits and obscures consciousness to higher dimensions, but also favors its individualization and allows self-consciousness. To the water element, formed in the planetary period of the Moon, corresponds the fluid state of consciousness that finds a form of analogy with that of dream. Objective realities are no longer "dead" and perceived in their exteriority, but are formative impulses that give rise to images and forms, pleasant or unpleasant. These images, which may be partially subjective, are not significative of a determined and univocal exterior aspect, but are significative of the action, qualities and history of the reality that originated them. In other words, in this state, the vision of an object or image does not only communicate its physical description, but also the emotional meaning associated with the psychic impulse that originated it. To the air element, specialized in the planetary period of the Sun, corresponds the state of dreamless sleep. Here consciousness is expanded, not limited by the body nor by a form. There is always an exterior life, but it is made of relationships, connections, informal flows with realities that we could define as "uranic," without defined form. Logical reasoning does not exist but the reciprocal transfer of the flow of consciousness. To the fire element, originating from the period of Saturn, corresponds the state of consciousness of deep trance not accessible to the waking state. Without bodily limits, the exterior world is all perceived as an interior phenomenon, as a form of deaf heat. Life in the period of Saturn was an "immediate participation in the worlds that man felt within himself as today he feels his heart." These states of consciousness, corresponding to the four elements and the previous periods or reincarnations of Earth and Humanity, must be traversed in the alchemical Opera al Nero maintaining the continuity and unity of consciousness.
Polyhedra and Spiritual Perfection
"Geometric figures when they are traced with their own images on paper and on metals operate marvelous things, I mean to speak of pentacles or similar. Note well that there is an analogous action also from the solid geometric figures that can be circumscribed with a sphere: the tetrahedron, hexahedron, octahedron, decahedron, icosahedron, dodecahedron, etc. [...] The sacred place used for theurgical rites and consecrations are empowered by sacred letters and numbers, marked with the force of thought with the ritual traveling staff or with the pastoral, tracing them on the ground in the form of a cross, or visibly tracing the cross on ash scattered on the floor." In two-dimensional geometric space, the circle separates one region from another, what is interior from what is exterior, distinguishing what is sacred from what is profane. In spiritual practice, intimacy with Wisdom can be achieved only after having eliminated every disturbing profane force. Isolation from the profane world is, therefore, the first function of the Temple. For this purpose, the Tibetan geometric tradition uses three concentric circles, as a triple barrier against the three poisons of consciousness: egoism, craving and ignorance. The three concentric circles, in addition to tripling the power of the symbols contained in the mandala, operate a triple purification: the circle of the mountain of fire that identifies gnosis and constitutes itself as an impenetrable fire barrier operated by Purifying Wisdom that burns and removes ignorance; the diamond belt is the essential consciousness, the power of being that frees from every craving and which, once conquered, is immutable like diamond; finally, the lotus circle, that is the spiritual rebirth of consciousness that, like the lotus, emerges from the swamp of karma and blooms immaculate above the waters under the light of divinity. Saved from the three poisons, freed from the shells, the initiate can open himself to the transmuting action of the symbol and unite in communion with Wisdom. Only with intimacy can he receive a confidence and thus become participant in the Secret. Inside the circle the spiritual powers to which the initiate must conform are expressed through the use of symbols, divine names and geometric figures. In particular, regular polygons, by virtue of their perfect symmetrical form, are suitable for representing angelic intelligences or spiritual entities superior to the ordinary state of human consciousness. To establish the symbolic connection between the entity and the appropriate geometric figure, graphic symbols are used that uniquely identify the entity, or the Name of this in a sacred language such as Hebrew.
