15 - The Devil
The fifteenth Arcanum is represented by Typhon, the genius of catastrophes, who rises above an abyss of fire and waves his torches over two men chained at his feet. It is the image of fatality that bursts into some lives like the eruption of a volcano and engulfs both the fat and the small, both the strong and the weak, both the most skillful and the least provident. It is also the symbol of animal magnetism, of pure astral light not dominated or polarized by the will, of the power of uncontrolled passions. It is the Great Magical Agent or the Infernal Fire that occultists call Astral Light. The two poles of Astral Light, namely the active pole and the passive pole, are represented by the two figures chained to each other. On the Devil's arms is written "Solve" and "coagula". These are the two alchemical operations, where "Solve" means to melt and "coagula" means to coagulate to indicate that one must melt what is inferior and coagulate the superior. Spiritualize the body, loosen the knots and bonds of matter and corporify the spirit making it solid and pure as a diamond and active as lightning.

16 - The Tower or Lightning
The sixteenth Arcanum represents a tower destroyed by lightning. Two figures fall from the tower, one is a royal figure and the other is a priestly figure. The two are the symbol of the corruption of the two powers: temporal and priestly. It is a symbol of the conflict of material forces, but also of the insufficiency of Man's work. It is also an emblem of rivalry, pride and common ruin. But also of the destruction of human work, the prelude to divine reconstruction. The temple that the Initiate built must be destroyed, this because it was built by a man, although with the best possible characteristics, but it is always human, therefore inferior. Lightning represents the necessary divine action.

When this arcanum ceases to be unfavorable, it puts one on guard against what threatens. Salutary fears, reserve, timidity that preserves a person from wrongly considering risks.
