Buddhist Bardo Teachings: The Colored Lights and Buddha Visions
human world will strike your heart. Then, because of the power of craving, you will develop fear towards the dazzling yellow light and flee from it. And you will feel attracted to the sad yellowish-blue light of the human world. [...] This is the path opened by your continuous propensity to blind craving that has come to welcome you. If you act attracted by it, you will be reborn in the human world and will have to suffer birth, aging, illness and death; and you will not have the possibility to escape from the swamp of earthly existence. This is an obstacle that obstructs the Path of Liberation. Therefore, do not look at it, and abandon your craving, abandon your propensities; do not let yourself be attracted by it; do not be weak. Have faith in the brilliant and dazzling light. Focus your burning thought on Buddha Ratnasambhava, and pray thus: "Alas! While I am wandering in the cycle of life driven by violent craving, May the lord, Buddha Ratnasambhava, Origin of Gems, guide me on the path of the clear light of the Wisdom of Justice! Along the way may his consort Mamaki, the Divine Mother, support me, save me from the dangerous difficulties of the intermediate state and lead me to perfect enlightenment." Praying thus, with deep humility and faith, you will merge in a rainbow into the heart of Buddha Ratnasambhava, the Divine Father-Mother, and obtain the state of Buddha in the Sambhoga-Kaya, in the Southern Kingdom of the Golden Buddha." So every opening of consciousness produces a supernatural light which however by resonance or reflection in man produces a natural one given by old attachments to the human world.
4th DAY RED LIGHT
The Fourth day consciousness opens to the forces of Love and Discernment that fight Egoism
• Amithabha, Ruby Buddha, Buddha of Infinite Light, Red, Fire, Lotus, West (unites and fights egoism) Wisdom of Discernment (vs. egoism) Kingdom of the Ruby Buddha (Consort: Pandaravasini)
Oh, noble being, listen without distraction. On the fourth day the red light will shine, which is the original form of the fire element. At this moment from the red land of the West the red Amithabha, the Buddha of Infinite Light, appears before you, seated on a peacock throne holding a lotus, united with his consort Pandaravasini, the White and Pure, [...] From the heart of Amithabha's couple shines before you red and penetrating, clear and blinding, pearled with drops, unbearable to your gaze, the red light of the Wisdom of Discernment and penetrates with precision into your heart. Do not be afraid. Accompanying this, the dull red light from the World of the Wretched also shines on you, beside the light of Wisdom. Act so as not to let yourself be attracted by it. Abandon attachment and weakness. [...] This dull red light is an obstacle that obstructs your path along the Path of Liberation. Do not attach yourself to it and let go of your habitual propensities. Do not be weak. Believe in the brilliant, dazzling red light. Place your faith with absolute determination in Buddha Amithabha, the Father-Mother, and pray thus: "While I wander through Samsara, because of the power of attachment, May I be guided by lord Amithabha, Buddha of Infinite Light, on the radiant path of light of the Wisdom of Discernment; May the Divine Mother, Pandaravasini, the White and Pure, protect me; May I be led safely through the dangerous snares of the Bardo; And may I be placed in the Most Perfect state of Buddha." Praying thus, with humility and fervor, you will merge into the heart of the Divine Father-Mother, Buddha Amithabha, in a rainbow, and obtain the state of Buddha in the Sambhoga-Kaya, in the Western Kingdom of the Ruby Buddha.
5th DAY GREEN LIGHT
Generally alongside these main lights secondary lights also conform which are identified in the Buddhist tradition as secondary divinities
• Amoghasiddhi, Emerald Buddha, The Infallible Perfection, Green, Air, Double Vajra, North (pacifies and fights envy) Omnipotent Wisdom (vs. envy) Kingdom of the Emerald Buddha (Consort: Dolma)
"Oh, noble being, listen without distraction. On the fifth day the green light of the original form of the air element shines on you. At that moment from the green Buddha land of the north, the green lord Amoghasiddi, the Infallible Lord, appears to you seated on an eagle throne, holding a diamond-lightning cross united with his consort the Noble Green Star, with his retinue, the two Awakened "The enlightening Mind" and "the liberator of Obstacles", assisted by two female Awakened. These six Buddha forms surrounded by a rainbow shine on you. From the original forms of the aggregate of will, from the heart of the couple of the Infallible Lord shines, green and penetrating, clear and blinding, adorned with sparkling dew, unbearable to your gaze, the green light of Omnipotent Wisdom and penetrates with precision the center of your heart. Do not be afraid. [...] Have faith in the dazzling green radiance, and, concentrating all your thought on the Divine Father-Mother Buddha Amoghasiddhi, pray thus: "While I am wandering in the cycle of life driven by deep envy, May lord Amoghasiddi, the Infallible Perfection, guide me on the path of Omnipotent Wisdom Along the way may his buddha consort Samayatara, the Noble Green Star, support me, save me from the dangerous difficulties of the Intermediate State and lead me to perfect enlightenment!" Praying thus, with intense and humble faith, you will merge into the heart of the Divine Father-Mother Buddha Amoghasiddhi within a rainbow, and reach the state of Buddha in the Sambhoga-Khaya, in the Northern Kingdom of the Emerald Buddha.
CONCLUSION
After the 7th day the visions repeat, but with a different meaning for the dying person and it is increasingly difficult for him to save himself so if he has not managed to identify with any of these lights then by now he is heading towards a new incarnation according to his evolutionary degree.
