potab: that is, potable gold, • Sanguis Draconis: dragon's blood and finally • Azoth. On the chimney one can then read the motto "NEC TEMERE, NEC TIMIDE" which means "Neither rashly, nor timidly" as an indication of how to proceed in the operations. Given these indications on the inscriptions, we leave to the reader every reflection on what according to Khunrath are the first operations to be undertaken to begin the Great Work.⁴
