Understanding Consciousness and Subconsciousness: Key Insights on Mind Control and Meditation Techniques
There is an action of consciousness on the subconscious, but we also have an action of the subconscious on consciousness, which is very powerful, very strong. We can say that the majority of thoughts we have are not thoughts generated by our consciousness, that is, we are not the ones who choose to think something, but they are the product of subconscious forces. For example, who gets hungry? It's not the spirit, it's not the I, the I doesn't need to eat, isn't tired. So when we have a thought of hunger, of eating, of fear, of worries, in most cases it's the bodies, the physical, emotional and mental bodies, that automatically produce these stimuli and consciousness simply sees the results, and forces, thoughts or emotions appear in our consciousness. So here, controlling, training, educating these bodies and somehow mastering these bodies, allows us to better understand and manage consciousness, these being like wild horses with no one to guide them. Essentially they are like this, generating psychodynamisms. When something appears in our consciousness, we must resolve the cause that generated this dynamic. If we don't do it, the symptom represents itself again. For example, a classic case, you decide to do a day of fasting, you'll soon discover how our organism thinks. You can close your eyes and what appears is the image of a sandwich, right? So it wasn't you who visualized it, because especially if you want to meditate, you have an objective, the I has an objective to meditate, but what happens is that an image appears. The same thing happens with thoughts, if you want not to think, automatically thoughts will appear that you never asked for, but that appear naturally. The best way to control these bodies of ours is simply to sit, eyes closed and stay motionless. If you can do this for two hours, or one night, staying still, you already possess control over these bodies. Participant: So how do you stop thoughts? The best way is, or repeat a word... Participant: Or think of an image? Also. But the best is the word nothing. Participant: Nothing? But then it doesn't stop. Dissolve everything, dissolve the thought with the word nothing and breathing. To truly clean the mind, and not fall asleep, the only way is with breathing, with rhythmic breathing you can truly free the mind. But also saying the word nothing. Nothing is to dissolve. What happens is that when a thought appears again, then you must repeat the word nothing and dissolve, and continue. After some time, at the beginning thoughts appear by the thousands, then hundreds, then ten, then one and then nothing. And there comes a moment when you understand the mechanism, that is, when the thought is not yours, is originated by... I don't know, for example, I got angry with a person, so I sit down, close my eyes, do some breathing and soon my thought appears that that person did foolish things, and that I am angry with him. When this thought is not yours, is not originated by us but is like a reaction of these bodies, what happens is that it appears in consciousness, but it's like a mosquito bite. When there's a bite and if you pay attention to this bite, then it will grow. If on the contrary, you withdraw attention and leave things simply without caring, without attention, neglecting what happened, these will exhaust themselves, correct? It's as if all thoughts had something like a claw. And our consciousness at each moment can decide whether to put attention, that is, whether to get caught in this thought or let this thought go away. The fact that we can manage not to give attention to these certain aspects, we call mastery of the mind which can also be trained. The crucial point is that there comes a moment where we establish ourselves as dominators of these bodies, as those who conduct these bodies. The I becomes the conductor of these bodies, so they become docile and, therefore respect, more or less, according to the demands but respect the orders that the I gives to these bodies. Thus we have an idea of what the personal subconscious is. Another very important aspect is that this subconscious is like a personality, as if it were another I. We divide into consciousness of the various bodies but in truth it's as if it were a person, another person who is another I.
