Sacred Hebrew Language and Divine Names in Kabbalistic Tradition
A sacred language is therefore a language whose constituent elements, that is the foundational letters, are based on archetypes or forces of divine character. And therefore on this they find their validity and the capacity to form words that are suitable to represent and identify realities and experiences of spiritual character. However, of these sacred languages as mentioned there are various ones, for example Sanskrit, Egyptian, etc... however we make reference to Hebrew. This for various reasons, the first reason is that this language is the language used by a series of characters like Moses, Abraham, Elijah, Jesus Christ. We are certain of being able to attribute the paternity of not a few words of power to the genius of Moses, Melchizedek, Abraham, Christ and, obviously, we are certain of being able to consider the form and pronunciation of these letters and combinations of alphabetic letters recorded for all centuries in some part of intelligible space. Consequently we are certain that, respecting the rules of Theurgy, it is possible to relive with word and thought the same experience lived by the prophets, if we repeat phonetically and mentally these letters and these Names.
When Moses composed Genesis it was not that there was grammar structured as now. Moses uses a succession of letters to communicate concepts and spiritual states that he has in mind. Moses therefore has a divine, metaphysical experience, which he synthesizes in a divine name. He can do it because he has formed an appropriate language, this sacred language that allows him to form these divine names. For those who come after, it is a matter of tuning in with this archetype so as to relive the experience that the first one who formed or received the name lived.
Knowledge of the Name
The Kabbalistic tradition hands down the Knowers of the Name or Baal Shem (Masters of the Name) who are those mystics, prophets and ascetics who know the names of God. Obviously knowing the divine name does not mean that they have read it from somewhere or have heard how it is pronounced. The pronunciation of the divine name is not only a matter of correct sound pronunciation according to special rules that are not those of modern Hebrew, nor of biblical Hebrew. Alongside a correct way of pronouncing the name phonetically, there is also a spiritual way of pronouncing the name. It is a matter of acquiring a harmony with these archetypes to such a point that the name becomes a vehicle of divine presence. The secret of this ascesis is that these names are lived as a true and proper sacrament, that is a vehicle through which divine presence is bestowed. Even in the Kabbalistic tradition it is narrated that Moses on Sinai had the road blocked by an angel and then to pass pronounced the divine name of $72$ letters. The Angel then saw the presence of God in Moses and fled terrified.
So how does one proceed to familiarize oneself with these names and be able to use these divine names. First of all it is necessary to familiarize oneself with the letters of the Hebrew alphabet. This is something we will do later but already from now one can begin to understand the principles with which this language works. First of all one must proceed by doing meditation on individual letters, familiarizing oneself with them and extending the concepts that correspond to them. Then one proceeds with a type of meditation that is called meditation on the symbol and which we will see soon. After becoming familiar with individual letters then one proceeds in the study of a divine name one letter at a time. First one concentrates on a letter, one penetrates the meaning of the letter trying to tune in with the idea that corresponds to it. Subsequently one adds the next one and proceeds forward.
Example
אום means Absolute Reality. It is a very ancient name, it is found in India and is associated with the creation of the world, but even before it is found among the Chaldeans. Mummu the name given by the ancient Chaldeans to the Creative Power of Tiamat. The name recalls the Lowing of the Bull, the Taurine Power. This name refers to a traditional name, whose origin is lost in the mists of time.
AUM summarizes the creative process: Aleph symbolizes the Creative Renovating Power, the "right hand" of God the Father, and the number $1$, source of all numbers, of all archetypes, the principle. Vau indicates the abyss, the void, the nothing from which God draws into being the Cosmic Man; it symbolizes the chaotic amalgam of primordial elements divided and ordered by the supreme Will and the number $6$, the harmonic union of the water of the Mother and the fire of the Father: the Star of David, the Being, the Son, the heart, the pulsing center of life and light. Mem symbolizes the Mother, the sea of universal life and the number $40$, the world produced from chaos ordered in $4$ phases, the "wheel".
